SAFARI OVERVIEW

Heading north from Kampala, this 3 Day Mighty Murchison Falls Safari itinerary takes you through villages and small towns over relatively flat savanna and agricultural terrain. Then your driver will stop at the rhino sanctuary and head into the park where the rest of your adventure awaits you. Kidepo Valley and Murchison Falls National Parks once hosted both black and white rhinos; however widespread poaching during the Idi Amin era resulted in the disappearance of these majestic animals from the wild. Founded in 1998, Rhino Fund Uganda works to reintroduce black and white rhinos into Uganda. They run a breeding program, as well as working to educate communities on these endangered giants, the problem of poaching and the need for environmental conservation. In the Rhino Sanctuary you will have a safari-hike to the rhinos which will give you the opportunity to view them at close range.

ITINARARY

Day 1 | Rhino Hike & Enter the Park

Your driver/ guide will pick you up early from your accommodation in Kampala and head north to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

After having had lunch at the Rhino Sanctuary (not inclusive) you continue to Uganda’s largest national park (3 hrs driving), where you can relax the rest of the afternoon.

Fort Murchison lodge is located just outside the park. The lodge is built in the style of the old forts and offers a great service and nice views over the River Nile. You will stay in spacious, self-contained rooms within the fort. Journey Time – 7 hours

Day 2 | Wildlife Viewing by Land and Water

You get up for an early breakfast on the second morning of the 3 Day Mighty Murchison Falls Safari and then go for your first game drive through the park. You will be eye-to-eye with the African animal kingdom: elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, different species of antelope and many tropical birds. They are all there!

In the afternoon, you take a boat safari towards the base of Murchison Falls. Carefully watched by crocodiles, hundreds of hippos, buffaloes, water birds, apes and all the other thirsty wildlife that the Nile attracts, your boat will arrive to the bottom of the 43-meter-high Murchison Falls, which approaches you with a thunderous sound. Your guide will be able to point out the famous spot where Hemingway’s plane went down.

Day 3 | Return to Kampala/Entebbe

After an early breakfast and picking up a packed lunch, you embark on the last day of the second morning of the 3 Day Mighty Murchison Falls Safari road trip back to Kampala, stop at Karuma falls on the way. The bridge was used by the known war lord for making attacks to moving vehicles during the LRA insurgency from late 80’s to the early 20’s.

NOTE: From here you drive back to Kampala. Your driver/guide drops you at your accommodation in Kampala (accommodation not included).
